• Safe Staffing Saves Lives

The Safe Staffing for Quality Care Act (S.782/A.8580-A) will set a maximum number of patients a nurse can care for at any one time.

  • Putting Patients Before Profits

Patients in need, and not enough nurses. It's putting New Yorkers at risk. Nurses across the state are being forced to take care of 9, 10, or even more patients at a time. When that happens, patient care suffers.

California passed safe staffing legislation and the results are clear. Studies show, patients outcomes have improved, nurses endure fewer workplace-related injuries, and hospitals have thrived.

That's why we're fighting for the Safe Staffing for Quality Care Act (S.782/A.8580-A). This bill will:

    • Make sure there are enough nurses at the bedside of New York patients
    • Set a cap on the number of patients a nurse is responsible for at any given time
    • Establish safe nurse-to-patient ratios in all New York hospitals
    • Require hospitals to staff nurses in the specific unit for which they are trained (i.e. an ER nurse should be trained in ER care)
    • Require hospitals to be more transparent
